Effective September 4, 2024, a clarification to Rule 29.e of the 2024 Briggs & Stratton 206 regulations will be enforced as follows:
In addition to requiring the use of a stock, unaltered Briggs & Stratton flywheel key bearing the official B&S logo (with an allowable key width between .1825” and .1875”), no offset keyways are permitted. The orientation of the flywheel key is now explicitly defined: the widest part of the key, which is defined as the allowable key width, must be aligned parallel to the opening of the slot in the crankshaft.
This update aims to close a recently discovered gray area in the rulebook. By specifying the required alignment of the flywheel key, it ensures that no performance advantages can be gained through the use of non-standard key orientations that may alter engine timing.
In practical terms, the widest section of the key must run parallel to the opening in the crankshaft slot, preventing any deviations that could potentially enhance engine performance. This clarification is part of the ongoing effort to maintain parity and fairness in competition by preserving the “sealed motor” concept, where all engines remain as equal as possible.
This rule will apply to all 206 classes at Snydersville Raceway, Oreville Kart Club, and the Microstock Racing Series. All competitors, engine preparers, and engine tech inspectors are expected to adhere to this updated rule immediately to ensure a level playing field in all future events.
